Adam Williams presents his prediction for the NHL match.
The Calgary Flames have the opportunity to solidify their position in the top eight of the Western Conference and secure another victory, especially as they welcome the main underdog from the East. The Buffalo Sabres' season has been challenging, with their focus primarily on developing young players and aiming for a high draft pick.
Calgary Flames
The Flames have won four of their last six matches. In their clash against the Winnipeg Jets (3:1), they demonstrated a high level of efficiency despite trailing significantly in shot count (22-39). Over their last six games, the Jets scored 14 goals. Their average scoring rate is only 2.67 goals per game (31st in the league, above only the Anaheim Ducks). However, the goaltenders, Dustin Wolf and Daniel Vladař, have shone during this period, conceding just 12 goals (an average of two per game). It’s worth noting that home matches have tended to remain low-scoring, with more than six goals scored in only two of the last 11 games.
Buffalo Sabres
The Sabres began 2025 with four wins in ten games. Their weak defence continues to hinder their progress, having conceded 21 goals in the last five matches (an average of 4.2 per game). This is unsurprising as the Sabres' defence ranks 28th in the league, letting in an average of 3.43 goals. In the same span, they have netted 15 goals (an average of three), which is respectable for an Eastern Conference underdog. However, the Sabres have struggled with offensive production—failing to cover a total over 6.5 in only four of ten games.
Calgary Flames vs Buffalo Sabres Prediction
The Calgary Flames appear more confident in 2025, though they are not known for their prolific attack. However, given the Buffalo Sabres' weak defence, the hosts have a great chance to earn points. Both teams tend not to play high-scoring games; even their October meeting finished with a total under as the Buffalo Sabres edged it (3:2 in a shootout). Therefore, we're going with a combination bet.
