Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the ATP Wimbledon match.
In the UK, there’s plenty of excitement surrounding Cameron Norrie’s recent win over a higher-ranked opponent. But now the home favourite faces 12th seed Frances Tiafoe — and should he win again, it might not be a full-blown upset, but it would certainly raise eyebrows.
Cameron Norrie
Norrie dispatched Roberto Bautista Agut in four sets, a player with a strong grass-court track record and a fourth-round appearance at Wimbledon in 2024. The Brit managed to close it out without letting it go to a decider, breaking serve at 4:5 in the fourth. Perhaps Bautista Agut is simply a favourable match-up — Norrie now leads their head-to-head 4-0.
Frances Tiafoe
Against Tiafoe, Norrie trails slightly (1-2), though the most recent loss came on hard courts in straight sets (6:4, 7:6). Their only grass-court meeting — a non-official exhibition in Nottingham last year — ended in Norrie’s favour (6:3, 3:6, 10:6). Tiafoe, for his part, opened Wimbledon by cruising past Denmark’s Elmer Møller (ranked 117th) in straight sets.
Cameron Norrie vs Frances Tiafoe Prediction
Frances Tiafoe may well come out on top again, but it won’t be as straightforward as his opening match. With the full backing of the home crowd, Norrie is well placed to push this one close.
