Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the ATP Washington match.
Cameron Norrie already has a solid win under his belt at this tournament, while Lorenzo Musetti is set to begin his campaign from this round. The Italian has limited credentials on hard courts — his standout performances have primarily been on clay.
Cameron Norrie
Cameron Norrie has been in strong form since mid-May, winning 13 of his last 18 matches. During this run, he has defeated the likes of Jiri Lehecka, Alexander Popyrin, Daniil Medvedev, Frances Tiafoe, and several other tough opponents. His Washington opener wasn't entirely straightforward: Norrie overcame Lloyd Harris, defeating his compatriot in a tie-break (6:3, 7:6). The statistics are also on his side — in all three hard court tournaments this season where he advanced past the opening round, he followed it up with another win.
Lorenzo Musetti
By contrast, Lorenzo Musetti holds a modest 6:4 record on hard courts in 2025. On three occasions, he needed a deciding set to secure victory. Away from his favoured clay surface, Musetti has struggled for consistency. He also picked up an injury in the semi-finals of Roland Garros, which disrupted his build-up to Wimbledon, where he was eliminated early by Nikoloz Basilashvili. It’s quite plausible that his appearance in Washington is more of a tune-up for the Toronto Masters than a genuine title bid.
Cameron Norrie vs Lorenzo Musetti Prediction
Cameron Norrie comes into this match in better form, more comfortable on hard courts, and already acclimated to the local conditions following a confident opening performance. Lorenzo Musetti’s track record on this surface remains unconvincing, making a handicap in favour of the Briton the rational pick.
