Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the CONCACAF Gold Cup match.
Canada
Canada wrapped up the group stage with an impressive goal difference of +8 and nine goals scored. However, the team didn’t manage to secure maximum points. They were held to a 1:1 draw by Curaçao, conceding in the 94th minute after failing to capitalise on their earlier chances. The Canadians were overly cautious in the final stages, registering only six shots on target. Their dominant goal difference was largely the result of a 6:0 rout of Honduras — a scoreline rarely achieved by Canada.
Guatemala
Guatemala finished second in their group with two narrow victories. Despite identical winning margins, the nature of the matches varied. Against Jamaica, the team recorded a tight 1:0 win, while the clash with Guadeloupe turned into a goal-filled encounter (3:2). Notably, they lost by just a single goal to Panama, the previous Gold Cup runners-up. Nicholas Hagen was under constant pressure, facing 21 shots, but only eight were on target and just one resulted in a goal.
Canada vs Guatemala Prediction
Two years ago, during the same tournament, Canada struggled to break down Guatemala in the group stage and were held to a goalless draw. We believe the favourites might only edge this contest either in extra time or by a slim margin.
