Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Championship match.
Both teams are just three points above the relegation zone. A draw would keep them outside the bottom three, but neither would gain much from sharing the points. As the home team, Cardiff City should theoretically have the upper hand, but does that hold true in reality?
Cardiff City
Cardiff City have not won since January 25, when they defeated Derby County (2:1) at home – a team currently in the relegation zone. Since then, they have suffered two defeats and two draws, along with a penalty shootout victory over Stoke City in the FA Cup fourth round. These results have seen Cardiff City drop from 18th to 21st in the standings. Although they tend to score in most matches, their defensive struggles persist, with Both Teams to Score appearing in six of their last seven games.
Hull City
Hull City have struggled to pick up wins in recent months, but when they do, it tends to be on the road. Their latest success came in the previous round, when they secured an unexpected victory over Sunderland (1:0) away. That marked their second consecutive win against a top-four team, having also triumphed over Sheffield United (3:0). With these performances in mind, we are less confident that Both Teams to Score will come into play here.
Cardiff City vs Hull City Prediction
Given Cardiff City's consistent defensive issues, and the fact that Hull City won both of their meetings last season (3:1 away and 4:1 at home), we believe Hull City will score and avoid defeat in this match.
