Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Championship match.
The Welsh club is still without a permanent manager, while Millwall, the most disliked club in England, have scored three goals once again. Can Cardiff City, in their current inconsistent state, pose any challenge to Millwall?
Cardiff City
The departure of Erol Bulut hasn't helped; things have only gotten worse. Cardiff City were thrashed by Hull City (1:4). Their only heavier defeat was to Burnley (0:5), but Hull City are not Burnley. Despite not being hopeless in attack (16(5) shots and 1.87 xG), their finishing has been very poor (6%). For the season, the team has scored 3.61 goals fewer than expected. Conversely, Cardiff City have conceded much more than their xGA (6.1). In this match, they allowed four goals on 2.26 xGA.
Millwall
In their match against Preston North End, Millwall's players did whatever they wanted in attack. Besides scoring three goals, they also hit the woodwork twice. The outcome was clear early in the second half when Macaulay Langstaff netted the third goal. With their scoring rate (12 goals in 7 games), it’s rather odd to see them in the lower part of the table. Everyone else down there has scored less. They should be around sixth or seventh place. A victory over Cardiff City could at least lift them to eighth position.
Cardiff City vs Millwall Prediction
Last December, Cardiff City beat Millwall at home 1:0, but this team is no longer the side that concedes little. They now seem to be plummeting, and even a new manager might not be able to save them. The visitors are expected to win.
