Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Championship match.
Only two points separate the clubs, with Cardiff City having a game in hand, making the gap one that could be closed within a single round, especially as the Welsh side play at home. Can the relative favourites leverage the advantage of their home ground and supporters?
Cardiff City
On 5 December, after 12 matches as interim head coach, Omer Riza was appointed the permanent manager of Cardiff City until the end of the season. The management had enough time to make their decision, and 16 points during that period is a solid return. This was the only significant development for the Welsh club over the week. Due to adverse weather, the match scheduled for 7 December against Watford was postponed and will be played in an available window. Missing a round hasn't yet pushed Cardiff City into the relegation zone, but a win against one of their main rivals is necessary.
Preston North End
Preston North End might have forgotten what victory feels like. Their last success came on 19 October, when they defeated Coventry City (1:0). This isn't a substantial achievement given Coventry's struggles and the ongoing team rebuild under a new manager. Picking up points in the upcoming match will be challenging, and an even tougher test awaits three days later when they host Leeds United.
Cardiff City vs Preston North End Prediction
We believe it is wise to back Cardiff City with a handicap of 0. They are more rested due to skipping a matchday, while Preston North End have not won away in nine games.
