Cardiff City are battling to retain their place in the Championship. The team sit just one point below the vital 21st position in the standings, but next face a tough test against Sheffield United, currently third.
Sheffield United
Sheffield United are enduring a difficult spell, having suffered three consecutive defeats, including losses to teams near the foot of the standings. In their latest match, they fell 1:2 away to Plymouth Argyle, who are currently bottom. Before that, they failed to score in back-to-back 0:1 defeats to Oxford United and Millwall. One of their leading scorers, Thomas Cannon, who has nine goals this season, hasn’t scored since Matchweek 24, which took place on 29 December.
Cardiff City
Cardiff City are giving everything in the fight to avoid relegation. They have taken points from four of their last five matches, with three draws and a win. Their most recent outing ended in a narrow 0:1 loss to Stoke City, but they were competitive throughout (1.46–1.06 in xG). Promising youngster Will Alves has stepped up impressively, contributing to three goals (1+2) over the past five games and adding much-needed creativity in midfield.
Cardiff City vs Sheffield United Prediction
These sides last met in January in the FA Cup, where Cardiff City earned a 1:0 victory away from home by effectively neutralising their opponents. A similar tactical approach is expected here, and given Sheffield United’s recent struggles, Cardiff City look well placed to secure at least a point.
