Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Championship match.
Cardiff City can only dream of retaining their Championship status at the moment, yet they are still perceived as favourites against a club contending for a top-six finish. But should we back the hosts?
Cardiff City
In reality, this isn't a match from the upcoming 27th round, but a rescheduled face-off for the 19th round that was postponed due to Storm Darragh. A victory would lift Cardiff City out of the relegation zone, albeit marginally, by three points. Yet, victories have been scarce for Cardiff, with only a 20% win rate over 25 matches. Unluckily, four out of the last five fixtures for them were away games. The sole home game finished in a draw against Coventry City (1:1). In the three games prior, Welsh fans witnessed three consecutive defeats with a 0:2 scoreline. Not the best omen heading into the Watford clash.
Watford
Watford had a dismal run in their last three away games, all ending in defeat. Although they managed to score in each, it wasn't enough to avoid losses. Overall, Watford have gone six away matches without a win, explaining their failure to secure a top-six position, despite opportunities offered by opponents.
Cardiff City vs Watford Prediction
It’s critical not to ignore that Cardiff City have gone five home games without a win. The optimal bet appears to be on Watford finding the net—something they do best, scoring in their last eight games.
