Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Championship match.
Cardiff City are one of two clubs facing the greatest risk of relegation. The team are three points adrift of the safety line—21st place—and the battle at the bottom of the standings remains intense. West Bromwich Albion, meanwhile, retain only a slim mathematical hope of finishing in sixth place.
Cardiff City
Cardiff City have suffered a dip in form at the worst possible moment. The team are winless in their last six matches, recording four draws and two defeats. Before this poor run, they were holding 21st place. The situation worsened to the point where Omer Riza was dismissed before completing a full season in charge. On 19 April, Aaron Ramsey was appointed interim manager. The 34-year-old former Arsenal and Juventus midfielder appears to have ended his playing career due to a recurring hamstring injury sustained in early March, having made just eight appearances all season. If he succeeds in keeping Cardiff City in the Championship, he may be considered for the permanent post next season. So far, he has overseen a 1:1 draw against Oxford United.
West Bromwich Albion
West Bromwich Albion spent 29 of the season's 44 rounds within the play-off positions, but a poor spell across the last five rounds has seen the team fall to 10th place, six points behind the top six. Over their last six fixtures, West Bromwich Albion have claimed just one win, losing the other five. They have scored only four goals in that stretch. Previously, such a return might have still yielded points, but defensive frailties have emerged since the departure of goalkeeper Alex Palmer to Ipswich Town.
Cardiff City vs West Bromwich Albion Prediction
West Bromwich Albion may still harbour faint hopes, but realistically, it is unlikely they will overtake the three other teams competing for the final play-off spot. Cardiff City, by contrast, will be more motivated than ever. Aaron Ramsey brings valuable experience from his playing days at the highest level. Considering the circumstances, backing the hosts appears to offer strong value.
