Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the ATP Barcelona match.
The Barcelona tournament carries particular importance for Carlos Alcaraz: the Spaniard is a two-time defending champion. Fresh from his recent win in Monte Carlo, he enters this event in excellent shape and is unlikely to be troubled in his opening match. For Ethan Quinn, simply reaching the main draw is already a milestone, but the American is unlikely to pose a serious threat to the tournament’s top seed.
Carlos Alcaraz
Carlos Alcaraz continues to establish himself as the leading clay-court player on the tour. Since last season, he has won 22 of 26 matches on the surface, including a Roland-Garros title and a run to the Olympic final. In Monte Carlo, he once again showcased a high level, despite some inconsistency with his forehand. Even without playing at his absolute peak, he lost the opening set in the final to Lorenzo Musetti, only to dominate the remainder of the match, conceding just one game (3:6, 6:1, 6:0).
Ethan Quinn
Ethan Quinn is more comfortable on hard courts and has limited experience on clay. In the qualifiers, he pulled off surprise victories over Corentin Moutet and Borna Ćorić, though both were out of form, and Quinn himself struggled with his serve. Against Borna Ćorić, he landed just 57% of his first serves. Earlier this year, Ethan was knocked out in the first round at both Indian Wells and Miami, and he has yet to face opposition of Carlos Alcaraz’s calibre—particularly on a surface that does not suit his style of play.
Carlos Alcaraz vs Ethan Quinn Prediction
Carlos Alcaraz is in peak condition, having won 85% of his matches on clay over the past year, and consistently delivers strong performances in Barcelona. Ethan Quinn usually competes on the Challenger tour and has not made significant progress in major events, especially this season. With minimal experience on clay, the American is expected to be comfortably outplayed.
