Adam Williams presents his prediction for the NHL match.
The Carolina Hurricanes still have a chance to fight for the top spot in the division, but they need to get on a positive streak, as the Hurricanes are currently alternating between wins and losses (5-5-0). The New York Islanders are not to be underestimated either—they defeated the Hurricanes in their first meeting (4:3).
Carolina Hurricanes
That victory came not too long ago—on 7 December. The Hurricanes had a brief break between home games then, showing vulnerability even at home. In their last 10 games, eight were played in Raleigh, resulting in three defeats. Even in their wins, there hasn't been a noticeable dominance. Just recently, they defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets (4:1) on class alone, even with AHL-level goalie Dustin Tokarski. Two victories were secured by just one goal—against the New York Rangers (4:3) and San Jose Sharks (3:2).
New York Islanders
The Islanders can't really boast outstanding away results, but their record is almost balanced (6-6-5). In their last seven games outside of Long Island, there's only been one win but only three outright defeats. Moreover, in those games without points, the only loss by more than one goal was to the Chicago Blackhawks (3:5).
Carolina Hurricanes vs New York Islanders Prediction
There will definitely be a contest. The Carolina Hurricanes no longer seem like the undeniable favourites they were in the first month. They're clearly not at their peak right now, which gives the Islanders a good chance at least for a draw. We believe that if the Hurricanes do win, it will only be by a narrow margin.
