Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Leagues Cup match.
In the final round of the Leagues Cup group stage, CF Montréal are set to host Club Puebla. Both teams have only a slim chance of progressing to the knockout round, but the possibility remains mathematically, which means nothing less than a win will do.
CF Montréal
CF Montréal have endured a disappointing campaign so far. After narrowly defeating Club León on penalties (2:1), they suffered a 1:2 loss to Deportivo Toluca, despite taking an early lead through Efraín Morales. Montréal have failed to keep a clean sheet in each of their last eight matches, though they have found the net in seven of those fixtures. Their form in MLS is equally worrying — they are at the foot of the Eastern Conference standings, with just one home victory so far.
Club Puebla
Club Puebla made an impressive start, sweeping aside New York City FC (3:0), but then fell to a 1:3 defeat against Columbus Crew. They favour an attacking style and regularly create scoring opportunities. The Mexicans have scored in each of their last five competitive fixtures. In Liga MX, Club Puebla are currently 14th in the standings, but come into this match following a 1:0 win over Santos Laguna.
CF Montréal vs Club Puebla Prediction
With both sides needing a win to stay alive in the competition, a draw would see them both eliminated. An open, attacking game with goals expected at both ends seems likely.
