Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the MLS match.
The two sides find themselves at opposite ends of the Eastern Conference standings: CF Montreal are currently bottom, while FC Cincinnati sit in second place. The Canadian outfit have only the minor advantage of playing at home.
CF Montreal
Montreal have struggled significantly this season, registering just their second win of the campaign in the previous round. That surprising triumph came away from home against Houston Dynamo (3:1). The result brought the squad within two points of second-bottom Toronto FC, but they have remained rooted to the foot of the Eastern Conference since round five.
FC Cincinnati
Cincinnati have held second place in the conference for six consecutive rounds. They have benefited from the inconsistency of their chasers, though a four-match winless run in the latter half of May allowed Philadelphia Union to pull four points clear. The team ended that poor run with a 1:0 away win at New England Revolution. Cincinnati have been particularly effective on the road, sitting third in the league with five wins from 10 away games.
CF Montreal vs FC Cincinnati Prediction
Montreal remain winless at home this season—their second victory, a 1:0 over New York City FC, also came on the road. Given their ongoing struggles, Cincinnati, who are firmly on course for the play-offs, should be expected to claim all three points. For added insurance, we’ll back the visitors with a 0 handicap.
