Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the English Premier League match.
Graham Potter returns to face his former club as the manager of his current one. Chelsea are far from their best at the moment, which gives West Ham United a solid chance of taking points.
Chelsea
Chelsea have won just one of their last seven Premier League matches, and that victory came against relegation-threatened Wolverhampton. What’s even more telling is that in four of the six games they failed to win, Chelsea had taken the lead but couldn’t hold on. In two of those cases, they ended up losing. For the neutral, though, Chelsea’s games have been entertaining – over 2.5 goals were scored in five of their last seven fixtures, and over 3.5 landed in four of them.
West Ham United
Under Graham Potter, West Ham have won just one of their four matches, scoring in three. That lone victory came in a thrilling contest against Fulham (3:2). Interestingly, that was the first time since 5 October that West Ham avoided defeat in a game where five or more goals were scored – back then, they beat Ipswich Town (4:1). Between those two results, however, West Ham endured heavy defeats, including a loss to Liverpool (0:5) and a defeat to Manchester City (1:4). Overall, high-scoring encounters have been common for them, with seven of their last 12 matches seeing over 2.5 goals.
Chelsea vs West Ham United Prediction
One of those high-scoring games was the reverse fixture, where Chelsea won (3:0). However, both sides now seem much closer in terms of performances. Predicting a winner is tricky, but what’s clear is that this match is likely to be full of goals.
