Simon Dalton presents his bet on the friendly match.
Chelsea finished the last Premier League season well, winning all 15 points in their final 5 matches. This helped the London club to reach sixth place. On July 25, the Blues begin their pre-season training. Their first summer opponent will be Wrexham.
Chelsea
Chelsea was one of the biggest disappointments of last season's Premier League. Sixth place most likely didn't satisfy the Blues. The management made another surprising decision by firing the newly appointed Mauricio Pochettino and bringing in Enzo Maresca. Many Chelsea stars didn’t go to the US, because they’re taking a rest after the Euro, so we don't expect top-quality football from the club. Also, Wrexham is one of England's most rapidly improving teams, so it won't be an easy game for Chelsea.
Wrexham
Last season, Wrexham got promoted again, just like the year before. They'll play in the League One this year. The Welsh club has already played two matches in July: they beat Hanley Town 5-1 and drew 1-1 with the Premier League team Bournemouth. The game against Chelsea is a great experience for Wrexham, so they'll show their full potential.
Prediction
Bookmakers clearly favour Chelsea, offering low odds of 1.25 for their win. But the Blues haven't played for over two months, so it won't be an easy game for them. We are betting that the Welsh team won't suffer a heavy defeat.
