Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Copa América Femenina match.
There is just one round remaining in the Copa América Femenina group stage. Group A remains finely poised, with four teams still in the running for two knockout stage berths — among them Chile and Uruguay.
Chile (women)
Chile currently hold second place in the group. They trail Argentina by three points and are two points clear of both Ecuador and Uruguay. A draw would be enough for Chile to progress to the knockout round in second place, having already beaten Ecuador (2:1).
Uruguay (women)
Uruguay face a more complex scenario, sitting fourth in the group. They are level on points with Ecuador, behind only on goal difference (by a single goal), with their head-to-head ending in a 2:2 draw. To leapfrog the Ecuadorian team, Uruguay must win — and do so by a margin of at least two goals, since Ecuador have scored more in the tournament. Given the defensive record of Argentina, who have conceded just once so far, it seems unlikely that Ecuador will score multiple goals. Even a 3:0 win for them seems improbable under the circumstances.
Chile (women) vs Uruguay (women) Prediction
Chile have only suffered one heavy defeat this year — a 0:3 loss to Argentina. Even in their Copa América Femenina clash, it was a narrow 1:2 defeat. Meanwhile, Uruguay have recorded just four wins in their last ten fixtures, none by more than a single goal. From our perspective, Uruguay are unlikely to claim all three points. A tight, low-scoring contest is expected, considering that three of the last four meetings between these sides featured fewer than 1.5 goals. We also do not expect Chile to be beaten.
