Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the 2024 Australian Open match.
Christopher Eubanks
Eubanks performed very well in the case of three tournaments last year. He reached quarter-finals in Miami and took the title in Mallorca. Eubanks beat Norrie (3:1) and Tsitsipas (3:2) and managed to win two sets in the game against Medvedev (2:3). Christopher performed poorly in Melbourne, though. He beat Kwon Soon-woo (3:2) only to lose to Lehečka (1:3). This time, Eubanks have already beaten Taro Daniel with a huge advantage. However, it’s going to be hard to do the same, playing against the fifth player in the world.
Andrei Rublev
Look at the statistics of the first round: 21 aces, 1 double fault, 83% of the win 1st serve, 88 winners and 40 unforced errors. Andrey was unlucky that Tiago had a game of life on a Big Slam tournament. Rublev has had three days to recover after that tough game. Christopher isn’t really a variative player, so Rublev should win easily.
Christopher Eubanks – Andrei Rublev prediction
Rublev won the tournament in Hong Kong one week prior to the start of the Australian Open, beating Ruusuvuori in the final (2:0). It seemed that the start of the Australian Open would be calm, but the Brazilian opponent was a tough nut to crack. The game lasted almost 4 hours.
Rublev looked fine in the first round. He managed to focus in some critical moments. The game versus Eubanks should be simpler.
