Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Belgian Pro League match.
Club Brugge
Club Brugge remained unbeaten against all top-tier opponents during pre-season and lifted the Belgian Super Cup after overcoming Royale Union Saint-Gilloise (2:1). Last season, the squad were dominant at home, registering 10 wins from 15 matches and scoring 38 goals. The squad also claimed four victories in their last five meetings with Genk, including two successes in cup competitions. Over the summer, Club Brugge transferred Chemsdine Talbi and Maxim De Cuyper to Premier League clubs, while Ferran Jutglà joined Celta de Vigo. Nevertheless, key contributors such as Hans Vanaken, Christos Tzolis, Romeo Vermant, and Gustaf Nilsson remain with the squad, having combined for 44 goals last season. They have also reinforced their ranks with the addition of Filip Stanković from Inter Milan.
KRC Genk
Genk finished last season on an inconsistent note, surrendering the lead during the play-offs and ultimately ending up third. During their summer friendlies, the squad avoided defeat, although the level of opposition was modest — victories over Fortuna Sittard (1:0) and Eintracht Frankfurt (4:0), and a 1:1 draw with Rayo Vallecano. The squad brought in two physically strong forwards during the transfer window: Daan Heymans from Westerlo, who scored 14 goals last season, and Aaron Bibout from Västerås, who managed six goals in 12 appearances. Tolu Arokodare, who netted 21 times in the previous league campaign, also remains part of the squad. However, Genk have struggled on the road against Club Brugge, suffering four defeats and securing just one draw in their last five visits.
Club Brugge vs KRC Genk Prediction
Club Brugge boast a stronger squad, appear in sharper physical condition, and benefit from home advantage, where they were difficult to beat last season. Genk still have enough attacking threat to find the net, but the upper hand is likely to stay with the hosts.
