Adam Williams presents his prediction for the NHL match.
The Vegas Golden Knights currently lead the Pacific Division but hold just a five-point cushion over the Los Angeles Kings. With five games remaining, any slip in form could prove costly. Their next challenge comes against the Colorado Avalanche, led by Nathan MacKinnon.
Colorado Avalanche
The Colorado Avalanche owe much of their success this season to their prolific attacking unit. The squad ranks fifth in the league for scoring, averaging 3.36 goals per game. Their power play is also among the league’s most efficient, converting at a rate of 24.8%, which places them eighth overall. However, the primary focus at present is Nathan MacKinnon’s pursuit of the scoring title. He is currently tied with Nikita Kucherov at 115 points and remains determined to finish the season as the sole leader.
Vegas Golden Knights
The Vegas Golden Knights have found themselves in a less-than-ideal situation. Throughout the season, the team has often relied on stifling opposition offences, but the injury to goaltender Ilya Samsonov has significantly hindered that strategy. Adin Hill has saved just 90.6% of the shots he has faced — his second-lowest figure in the past six seasons — and has not shown standout form. Nevertheless, the squad can still count on its attacking prowess, averaging 3.34 goals per game and boasting the most effective power play in the league with a conversion rate of 29.7%.
Colorado Avalanche vs Vegas Golden Knights Prediction
Both sides prioritise offensive play. Combined, they average 6.7 goals per game, and it's unlikely either the Colorado Avalanche or the Vegas Golden Knights will adopt a more defensive approach in this match-up. Earlier this season, the teams produced a high-scoring shootout with 12 total goals, and another goal-laden clash appears likely.
