Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Conference League match.
At the Round of 16 stage, Copenhagen are seen as one of the strongest clubs. However, they have drawn Chelsea, who are the main contender for the tournament victory.
Copenhagen
Chelsea won the group stage unequivocally, which is why Copenhagen start at home. The Danish club finished the group stage in 18th place with 8 points and were unseeded in the knockout round. After a home defeat at Parken (1:2), they advanced over Heidenheim (3:1) thanks to an extra goal in the second leg. Given their struggles against a Bundesliga outsider, how will Copenhagen fare against one of England’s medal contenders?
Chelsea
In reality, Chelsea are not as impressive as they were in the autumn. Their win over Southampton (4:0) in the previous match was only one of two victories in February. They also suffered three defeats against mid-table Premier League teams. A team of their level currently appears unable to score more than one goal, as key forwards Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke are injured. Chelsea even had to register Cole Palmer for the Conference League playoffs, despite having managed well without him before. Moreover, the Englishman has been unproductive for six consecutive Premier League rounds.
Copenhagen vs Chelsea Prediction
Under these conditions, we do not view Copenhagen as underdogs, at least in the home leg. The Danish club are fully capable of travelling to Stamford Bridge with at least a draw.
