Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the ATP Roland Garros match.
This could potentially mark Novak Djokovic’s final campaign at Roland Garros, and the Serbian appears fully intent on making it count. His recent triumph in Geneva, the 100th title of his career, seems to have reignited his motivation. He advanced through the opening round with composure, and conserving energy in these early stages is now crucial. In the second round, he faces Frenchman Corentin Moutet, a quirky left-hander who enjoys strong backing from the home crowd. However, the likelihood of an upset remains low.
Corentin Moutet
In his first-round match against the modest Clément Tabur, Moutet delivered a subpar performance: 37 unforced errors and a first-serve success rate of just 50%. Such a display will not be sufficient against elite competition. Over the course of his career, Moutet has won only one of 14 meetings against top-10 opponents. On clay in 2025, he has played 16 matches and secured just eight victories. He has faced Novak Djokovic twice before and lost both times, including a clay-court encounter in Rome last year that ended 3:6, 1:6.
Novak Djokovic
Despite ongoing talk about a potential retirement, Novak Djokovic continues to dominate when up against lower-ranked opposition. He looked sharp in Geneva, and his opening-round win in Paris over Mackenzie McDonald showed he is back in rhythm: 32 winners, four out of five break points saved, and an 81% success rate on first-serve points. Historically, Djokovic has been near flawless in the second round at Roland Garros, winning 19 of his 20 matches at this stage — his only loss dating back to 2005.
Corentin Moutet vs Novak Djokovic Prediction
Corentin Moutet may be able to trouble Novak Djokovic in short spells, but sustaining that level over a best-of-five format is highly unlikely. The Serbian is widely expected to secure a routine victory in straight sets, with home support unlikely to tip the balance in the Frenchman’s favour.
