The tight nature of the second tier of English football means Coventry City and Bristol City are direct rivals, despite being separated by six positions in the table. Bristol City have shown greater consistency this season, with a solid defence allowing them to aim for a playoff spot.
Coventry City
A defeat to Norwich City (1:2) in their first match of 2025 left Coventry City in 16th place, with only one victory in their last five fixtures. They have defensive issues, conceding 37 goals — only Sheffield Wednesday have conceded more (40) in the top 15. Incidentally, Coventry managed to get past Sheffield Wednesday in a tough FA Cup match (2:1 after penalties), meaning not all their players will be fresh for the upcoming fixture.
Bristol City
Since Christmas, Bristol City have picked up 10 out of a possible 12 points in the Championship, the best form in the league. On the road, they have gathered 14 points (ninth place), and they nearly caused an upset against a strong Wolverhampton Wanderers side in the FA Cup (1:2). Bristol City seem determined to continue their winning ways, with their attack in excellent form.
