Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Championship match.
Coventry City have climbed to 13th place, their highest position since being ninth after the third round. This rise was secured by their second consecutive win and third game gaining points. A meeting with Derby County presents an excellent chance to ascend even higher.
Coventry City
Their second win, particularly with a 3:0 scoreline, was quite unexpected. They defeated Middlesbrough away, a team that had suffered only one home loss prior. A pivotal moment came in the 22nd minute when, with the score still 0:0, Middlesbrough's defensive midfielder was sent off for a second yellow card. Notably, the last time Coventry City lost was away to Preston North End in the 10th round (0:1).
Derby County
Derby County aren't the most daunting opponents on the road either. Since their return to the Championship, they haven't won in seven away matches, managing only two draws. At one point, they broke into the top ten, which is a commendable result for a newly promoted side with the third lowest squad value. They're currently in 14th, and it wouldn't be surprising if they slip further.
Coventry City vs Derby County Prediction
For Coventry City, this is their longest unbeaten run of the season, a feat not seen since January 2024. The run is very likely to continue. At the very least, the hosts should achieve a draw. One more note: no more than two goals have been scored in their last six encounters with Derby County, and Coventry City are unbeaten in their last five matches.
