Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Championship match.
Frank Lampard is working wonders with Coventry City. Perhaps it’s not always wise to return to a club where you achieved glory as a player, but it seems to be a perfect match with the club. A victory over Stoke City would further strengthen Coventry’s position in the play-off contention.
Coventry City
Coventry City are currently on a four-match winning streak. Before this, they lost to Leeds United (0:2) – without that result, they would have a run of eight wins. In the past two months, they have risen from 16th to 5th in the league table. The return of forward Haji Wright, who made his first appearance in Matchday 35 against Oxford United after injury, provides an additional option. He has been absent since early November due to an ankle injury.
Stoke City
Mark Robins previously played a key role in Coventry’s resurgence. However, his tenure of over seven years ended on November 7th, following a defeat to Derby County, which positioned Coventry in 17th place. Robins took over at Stoke City on January 2nd, with the team in 19th place, and they have shown limited improvement since then. They are currently 20th, five points above the relegation zone, averaging one point per game under his management.
Coventry City vs Stoke City Prediction
Coventry City simply have to win this match. Stoke City have been very inconsistent of late. A small handicap on the home side could be a worthwhile bet.
