Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Championship match.
Coventry City have been on a fantastic run, but their unexpected slip against struggling Derby County raises concerns. Now they face Sunderland, a team above them in the table and another tough test for Coventry City.
Coventry City
Despite their incredible form of nine wins in ten matches, Coventry City fell to a shock 1:2 defeat against Derby County, who had not won in 12 games. They dominated possession (69%) and had double the number of shots (13-6), but Derby converted both of their shots on target. Coventry remain in a strong position, sitting comfortably in the playoff zone, though only two points clear of seventh place.
Sunderland
Sunderland also failed to capitalise on Burnley’s slip, drawing 1:1 with Preston North End. Interestingly, six of their last eight matches have seen a scoreline involving the number 2, but their latest performance was a rare exception. Despite generating 2.08 xG and 20 shots, they only hit the target twice, wasting numerous opportunities.
Coventry City vs Sunderland Prediction
Both teams struggled with efficiency in front of goal in the previous round, raising concerns about their ability to convert chances. Given Coventry City and Sunderland’s recent inefficiency in attack, a low-scoring game is expected.
