Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the EFL Cup match.
Coventry City and Tottenham Hotspur will meet for the first time since 2013, once again in a cup competition, this time the English League Cup. There's no opportunity to meet in the Premier League at the moment, as Coventry have not reached that level.
Coventry City
Coventry City play with a minimalist approach. They neither win nor lose by more than one goal margin. The scoreline of 1:0 has appeared most frequently, occurring in four out of seven matches. They have drawn twice (1:1), but occasionally can score (3:2) as they did against Oxford United. Regardless, they do not allow opponents much freedom. While Tottenham are a league higher, that doesn't guarantee a rout, especially with the home-field advantage for Coventry.
Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur cannot boast consistent, dominant victories either. The exception was a 4:0 rout of Everton, but almost any Premier League team can break down Everton's defence. Tottenham’s talented attackers struggled against weakened Arsenal, even with their expensive summer signing, forward Dominic Solanke, back in action. Despite outshooting Arsenal more than two to one (15-7), David Raya made several crucial saves. Their wastefulness resulted in a loss of all points.
Coventry City vs Tottenham Hotspur Prediction
Ange Postecoglou may mix up the squad with youth players and reserves. North London derbies are never easily won. Even if Tottenham take the lead, we do not believe they will dominate the hosts thoroughly. The League Cup is not significant enough to warrant an all-out effort, so it will be a low-scoring match.
