Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the WTA Wimbledon match.
A favourable draw helped Cristina Bucsa reach the second round, as she faced Anca Alexia Todoni (WTA No. 90) in her opener. However, the luck ends there, with a far tougher test ahead in Donna Vekic, who is pushing for a place in the top 20.
Cristina Bucsa
Bucsa’s performance in the first round didn’t inspire much confidence. Both sets were tight (6:4, 6:4), with just a couple of key points deciding the outcome. The Spaniard showed a lack of composure, converting only 18% of her break points and squandering five match points before finally closing it out. A more seasoned opponent would likely have punished those lapses.
Donna Vekic
Vekic, meanwhile, cruised past Kimberly Birrell (No. 74), 6:0, 6:4. The Croatian was clinical on serve, holding all eight games and converting every single break point opportunity. She was also clean in execution, hitting 24 winners to 17 unforced errors, and defended exceptionally well, winning 49% of points on return despite the fast surface.
Cristina Bucsa vs Donna Vekic Prediction
It’s hard to see any real intrigue or upset potential in this one. Vekic is in top form and looks more than capable of going deep into the tournament. Bucsa is unlikely to derail her progress.
