Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the English Premier League match.
Both clubs delighted their fans in the previous round, overcoming their respective opponents. Crystal Palace are in a comfortable mid-table position, allowing them to play with relative freedom – they currently sit 13th. Aston Villa, meanwhile, continue their pursuit of Champions League qualification.
Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace’s form has been somewhat paradoxical. They’re winning away from home, but losing at Selhurst Park. At their home ground, they lost to less formidable opponents: first Brentford (1:2), then Everton (1:2). In contrast, Crystal Palace boast four consecutive away victories, all with the same 2:0 scoreline. They haven’t tasted defeat on the road since 18th December, when they lost to Arsenal at the Emirates. Their last home win was on 29th December against bottom-of-the-table Southampton (2:1) – a less than convincing indicator of their home form.
Aston Villa
Aston Villa’s form is more predictable: 14 games unbeaten in Birmingham, compared to three games without a victory anywhere else. Their last win was against Everton on 15th January. They are currently being driven by their new signings: in their victory against Chelsea in matchday 26, Marco Asensio scored twice, both assisted by Marcus Rashford. They will also be expecting goals from Donyell Malen.
Crystal Palace vs Aston Villa Prediction
Considering Aston Villa’s strengthening during the winter transfer window and Crystal Palace’s poor home record, we believe the visitors are almost guaranteed to pick up points, despite their own mini-drought.
