Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the UEFA Nations League match.
Last month, both the Czech Republic and Albania national teams experienced similar outcomes: each side defeated Ukraine in head-to-head clashes but lost to Georgia. In their upcoming encounter, the hosts are likely to take control of both the chances and the game itself, thanks to their more versatile lineup.
Czech Republic
The Czech Republic's disastrous trip to Tbilisi (1:4) was largely due to their opponents' clinical finishing, despite a relatively even match in terms of chances (0.65 vs 2.41 xG and 11-13 in shots). For their home game against Ukraine (3:2), the coaching staff made several adjustments—the team looked much more confident in pressing with a 3-4-3 formation (2.17 xG and 13 shots). It's possible that for the forthcoming match, Bundesliga stars Patrik Schick and Adam Hložek will return to the starting lineup, having been options off the bench in September.
Albania
Like in Euro 2024, where Albania finished last in the 'group of death', they began the Nations League by focusing on the opposition. While this tactic paid off against Ukraine (2:1), despite the opponents taking four more shots, at home against Georgia (0:1) they only managed to create 0.14 xG. The team struggle to be proactive—midfielders Nedim Bajrami and Kristjan Asllani are not effective at advancing the ball.
Czech Republic vs Albania Prediction
Since June 2021, the Czech Republic and Albania have each secured one home victory, with another match ending in a draw. In Prague, home support and a strong lineup will likely help the hosts secure all three points.
