Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the WTA Rome match.
For the third time this year, the draw has paired Dayana Yastremska and Anastasia Potapova. Their head-to-head record currently stands at 1-1, with both players having won a match in straight sets. The upcoming encounter in Rome presents a key opportunity to see who holds the advantage at this stage of the season.
Dayana Yastremska
Dayana Yastremska reached the round of 64 in Madrid, where she lost to world No. 3 Coco Gauff, who went on to reach the final. Despite the defeat, Yastremska delivered a determined performance, taking the match to three sets (0:6, 6:2, 5:7). Earlier, she progressed to the round of 32 in Stuttgart and was holding her own against world No. 18 Elena Ostapenko (3:6, 0:3) before retiring due to injury.
Anastasia Potapova
It should be noted that Anastasia Potapova has limited experience on clay. In 2025, she has played just six matches on the surface and has yet to show consistent form. Even against lower-ranked opponents such as Clara Tauson (ranked 23rd), Ashlyn Krueger (ranked 37th), and Sofia Kenin (ranked 31st), she required a deciding set to come through each time. In Madrid, she was comfortably beaten by world No. 27 Marta Kostyuk (3:6, 2:6).
Dayana Yastremska vs Anastasia Potapova Prediction
While Anastasia Potapova is being considered the favourite, Dayana Yastremska should not be underestimated. She has shown she can challenge elite players and recorded a win over Anastasia Potapova as recently as February. Even if she doesn’t progress, the Ukrainian is expected to secure at least one set.
