Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Euro 2024 match.
Denmark
The first half of the game against Slovenia saw a great goal of Eriksen. The experienced Danish player is back 3 years later after is heart attack. He’s the oldest player to score a goal in the European Championship for Denmark. However, in the second half Denmark only had 0.83 xG (Slovenia had 1.08) and their opponents levelled the score. Even Poulsen and Dolberg didn’t manage to save the day.
England
A joy that the goal scored by Bellingham brought to the fans remained under a blanket of bewilderment from the defensive style Southgate supports. Kane didn’t have a chance to create an attempt. England ended up with 0.54 xG after 90 minutes. England won (1:0) but along with Serbia they made only 11 shots, which was an awful result.
Denmark – England prediction
Despite unimpressive attacking actions, both Denmark and England can be satisfied with the results of the first round. England will play carefully in the second game now. In the Euro 2020 semi-finals England did their best to deprive Denmark from playing offensively (England won 2:1 after extra time). Obviously, Southgate will be unable to make up something to improve the English attacking actions.
