Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the for the friendly match.
Denmark and Northern Ireland are set to meet in a friendly on 7 June 2025 as part of their preparations for the World Cup qualifiers. Both sides are aiming to secure at least a play-off spot in their respective groups, and this encounter offers a useful opportunity to assess their squads ahead of more competitive fixtures.
Denmark
Northern Ireland will make the trip from their island to the Danish peninsula for this friendly. Denmark have established themselves as a tough side to beat at home, with only Spain managing to claim victory in Copenhagen (1:2). In the 2024/25 Nations League, the team reached the play-offs after finishing second in their group. They secured a 1:0 win over Portugal in the first leg of the quarter-finals at Parken Stadium. However, in the second leg in Lisbon, they conceded a third goal in the 86th minute and eventually lost 2:5 after extra time.
Northern Ireland
In this friendly, Northern Ireland take on the role of visitors. While they haven’t competed at the same level as teams involved in the UEFA Euro 2024 play-offs, they did manage to top their group in League C of the Nations League—a respectable achievement, though short of elite competition. In March, they suffered a heavy 1:5 defeat in a friendly against Sweden. Despite a fairly balanced number of attempts on goal (14–16), they came off second best. The team lacked attacking players of the calibre of Alexander Isak and Anthony Elanga, both of whom scored in that match.
Denmark vs Northern Ireland Prediction
By contrast, Denmark boast attacking talents such as Rasmus Højlund and Mika Biereth, the latter having enjoyed a breakout spell in Ligue 1 with AS Monaco over the past six months. This attacking quality should prove too much for the visitors. While a rout isn’t guaranteed, a comfortable win is anticipated.
