Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the UEFA Nations League match
At Euro 2024, Denmark advanced from the group stage but couldn’t challenge Germany in the Round of 16, losing 2:0. Switzerland, on the other hand, managed to knock out the reigning champions Italy 2:0, showcasing the impressive work of the coaching staff led by Murat Yakin.
Denmark
During the tournament, Denmark failed to secure a single victory, drawing all three group stage matches and generating only 3.12 xG over 270 minutes. They did put up a fight against Germany in the playoffs, but after Joachim Andersen's goal was disallowed early in the second half, their defence fell apart: Germany created 1.71 xG with six shots in the second half. Kasper Hjulmand stepped down as head coach, and his assistant Lars Knudsen will lead the team until the end of the year, as the federation has not yet found his successor.
Switzerland
Unlike Denmark, Switzerland managed to avoid defeat against Germany and nearly snatched a win in the final group stage match (1:1). Against Italy, they created an impressive 1.02 xG with 16 shots, and Ruben Vargas had a standout performance (1+1). It is likely that they will maintain a three-defender formation, as the coaching staff has plenty of options to strengthen the flanks and central areas.
Denmark - Switzerland Prediction
At Euro 2024, Switzerland demonstrated their considerable potential, and only veterans like Xherdan Shaqiri and Yann Sommer have left the team since then. Denmark, however, is stagnating—their defensive errors will allow the opponent to create chances and score.
