Adam Williams presents his prediction for the MLB match.
The San Diego Padres, currently tied at the top of the National League standings with two other squads, continue their road trip with a visit to the Detroit Tigers. The first game of the series did not go as planned for the visitors, who fell to a 4:6 defeat. Their road record now stands at 4:6, which looks increasingly poor when contrasted with their dominant 12:1 home form.
Detroit Tigers
The Detroit Tigers have been equally impressive at home, winning 9 of their opening 11 fixtures. While this strong showing is the result of various contributing factors, the current outlook for the team appears promising. As underdogs at home, they’ve managed to win two of their last three appearances. A key factor has been the form of first baseman Spencer Torkelson. Known for his streaky production, Torkelson has hit a rich vein of form this spring and currently ranks inside the top 10 of all MLB hitters in the crucial OPS category, posting a mark of 1.005.
San Diego Padres
The San Diego Padres are grappling with a number of injury concerns. Luis Arráez has been ruled out for at least a week following a collision with an opponent on Sunday. Also unavailable are Jake Cronenworth, Brandon Lowe, Jackson Merrill, and Jason Heyward — all of whom typically feature in the top half of the batting order. Although Fernando Tatis Jr. remains in the lineup, it’s a considerable task for him to carry the squad single-handedly.
Detroit Tigers vs San Diego Padres Prediction
The Detroit Tigers are expected to benefit from the presence of a well-rested starting pitcher, as Jack Flaherty is set to take the mound after receiving an extra day of rest from the manager following the game against the Milwaukee Brewers. Flaherty has a positive career record of 2:1 against the San Diego Padres. Taking into account the visitors’ growing injury list, the home side should be well-positioned to take control early and maintain their advantage throughout.
