Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the US Open match.
With Daniil Medvedev already eliminated in the opening round, Russian fans will be hoping Andrey Rublev doesn’t follow suit. His first opponent in New York is Croatia’s rising youngster Dino Prizmic.
Dino Prizmic
The 20-year-old Croatian has just 15 ATP Tour main-draw matches to his name, four of them this season. His career record is 6-9, though in 2025 it stands at a positive 3-1. His only tour-level appearance this year came at his home tournament in Umag (ATP 250), where he reached the third round before falling to world No.46 Luciano Darderi (6:1, 2:6, 3:6). Prizmic has made his biggest gains on the Challenger circuit, climbing nearly 180 spots in eight months, which allowed him direct entry into the US Open without qualifying.
Andrey Rublev
Rublev has been far from flawless but steadier than his compatriot Medvedev. In his US Open build-up he underperformed only in Washington, bowing out in round two. At his other American hard-court events he made at least the quarter-finals, losing only to Taylor Fritz and Carlos Alcaraz — both defeats coming while covering the +4.5 handicap. The Russian is targeting at least another run to the quarter-finals, his best result so far in New York, and will be highly motivated to avoid a repeat of Medvedev’s slip-up.
Dino Prizmic vs Andrey Rublev Prediction
Prizmic is talented and improving quickly, but his limited top-level experience is unlikely to trouble a focused Rublev. Expect the Russian to impose himself early and win with room to spare.
