Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the WTA Wimbledon match.
Ekaterina Alexandrova and Belinda Bencic will battle for a place in the Wimbledon quarter-finals. For the Russian, this is an opportunity to reach the last eight of a Grand Slam for the first time in her career. She was eliminated at this stage last year by Aryna Sabalenka, and just a month ago at Roland Garros, she was eliminated by Coco Gauff. Bencic, meanwhile, is gradually returning to form after an injury break and, despite a heavy loss in Bad Homburg, remains capable of turning things around.
Ekaterina Alexandrova
Ekaterina Alexandrova has put together a strong season with 28 wins and 13 defeats, but continues to struggle against higher-ranked opposition. She’s lost three of her last six matches against players inside the top 50. Against Zeynep Sonmez, she lacked consistency, committing 20 unforced errors on the forehand side and needing a tie-break to get past the Turkish player. At Wimbledon, her error count is concerning — 64 unforced errors and 12 double faults so far.
Belinda Bencic
Two weeks ago, Belinda Bencic suffered a clear loss to Ekaterina Alexandrova, but she was lacking match fitness at the time. Since then, the Swiss has looked sharper — in her match against Elisabetta Cocciaretto, she showed discipline and mental strength in the deciding tie-break. At Wimbledon, Bencic has limited her double faults to just two and has delivered solid serving statistics, landing 71% of first serves and winning 67% of those points.
Ekaterina Alexandrova vs Belinda Bencic Prediction
With Belinda Bencic regaining her rhythm and Ekaterina Alexandrova showing signs of inconsistency, this should be a closely contested encounter. The Swiss looks well-placed to keep the scoreline tight and avoid a lopsided defeat.
