Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the WTA Cincinnati match.
Ekaterina Alexandrova
In 2025, Alexandrova has won 31 of her 47 matches, a 66% success rate. Since May, she has taken 13 of 16 encounters against lower-ranked opponents. Against Lulu Sun (6:4, 6:2), she had a brief lapse at the start of the second set but otherwise controlled proceedings, serving solidly throughout. She won 83% of points behind her first serve and struck seven aces.
Maya Joint
Joint, meanwhile, is enjoying her first genuinely successful season at senior level. The Australian reached the third round of a WTA 1000 for the first time by defeating Greet Minnen and Beatriz Haddad Maia. Her win over the Brazilian was particularly memorable — three hours on court and capitalising on her opponent’s 18 double faults. Against more experienced top-20 players, however, Joint has struggled, losing five of six matches. While strong runs on clay and grass have propelled her into the top 50, her hard-court game remains inconsistent. At seven WTA 500 and 1000 events this year, she has yet to progress beyond the third round.
Ekaterina Alexandrova vs Maya Joint Prediction
Although Joint has performed well in Cincinnati, she still finds it tough against elite opposition. In her current form, Alexandrova should progress comfortably.
