In the first match, Elfsborg made only two shots on target in 90 minutes, focusing on defence more. They were able to handle the Sheriff's attack, but they didn’t win. Simon Hedlund’s late penalty goal shows how close the game was. On Sunday, Elfsborg also lost their league match to Djurgårdens (1:2), falling further behind in league standings.
Sheriff Tiraspol
Sheriff is fully focused on performing in the Europa League qualifiers. It’s not anymore the team that reached the Champions League and Europa League group stages, but last Thursday they proved to be tough opponents in the first match. Sheriff might bring in Rasheed Akanbi, who was more effective in the opponent's penalty area than Peter Ademo. Abou Ouattara is more likely to be a substitution.
Elfsborg - Sheriff Tiraspol Prediction
Elfsborg’s 1-0 win over Sheriff in the first leg doesn’t guarantee them a place in the next round of the Europa League qualifiers. Of course, they will feel more confident, as they’re hosts, but their opponent is well experienced in European tournaments.
Elfsborg’s participation in the Swedish championship could be a distraction. They might win at home, but with a little advantage. Sheriff will make it a tough match, so odds on them to win would be a good idea.
