Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the WTA US Open match.
The probability of Iga Świątek defeating Emiliana Arango is estimated at 80%. In truth, it should be even higher. Since 2020, the Polish star has not lost before the third round of a Grand Slam.
Emiliana Arango
At 24, this is the Colombian’s first season competing in the main draws of Grand Slam tournaments. Back in 2022, she was outside the top 200, only beginning to test herself in Slam qualifiers. Her breakthrough came in spring 2025 at Roland Garros, where she reached the second round by defeating Alexandra Eala (6:0, 2:6, 6:3), who had enjoyed a fine spring run. At Wimbledon, however, her campaign ended in the opening round against 16th seed Daria Kasatkina (5:7, 3:6).
Iga Świątek
Świątek arrives in New York on the back of a five-match winning streak, capped by her WTA 1000 title in Cincinnati, where she did not drop a single set. Impressively, four of her opponents there were ranked inside the world’s top 50. Overall, her 2025 win percentage stands at an imposing 80%. She has never faced Arango before, but the Colombian’s profile is similar to that of Eva Lys, ranked No. 69, whom Świątek dismissed with ease in Montreal (6:2, 6:2).
Emiliana Arango vs Iga Świątek Prediction
There is little to suggest the 2022 US Open champion will have any difficulty. Arango lacks experience at this level, while Świątek’s form and pedigree make her a heavy favourite. Expect a commanding win with a sizeable margin.
