Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the UEFA Nations League match.
In October, the coaching staff of the England national team has another opportunity to showcase their quality debut in the Nations League. The task at home against Greece is straightforward for the team: secure a comfortable win and test the squad's depth, which could be beneficial for future challenges.
England
Against the Republic of Ireland and Finland (both 2:0 victories), the team performed nearly flawlessly. In Dublin, England scored twice by the 26th minute, and the final xG difference (2.25 to 0.37 with 71-29 in possession percentage) indicated that the team had little to challenge them in Division B. The scenario was similar with Finland, where the Bayern Munich forward scored twice, with shot statistics (22-2) demonstrating their dominance.
Greece
In March, the Greece national team fell just short of qualifying for Euro 2024. This year, they have faced top competition only in friendlies—losing to Germany in June (1:2) while the German reserves dominated possession (36-64). Certainly, Greece deserve credit for an impressive start in the Nations League with wins over Finland (3:0) and the Republic of Ireland (2:0), but at Wembley, they'll encounter an opponent of a completely different level.
England vs Greece Prediction
On Thursday, England will have plenty of opportunities for another victory. Greece will likely lose the group lead, their opponent is by far the most formidable side in the second tier of the Nations League.
