Both Envigado FC and Fortaleza C.E.I.F. concluded the Apertura in the bottom half of the standings, with Envigado ending the campaign in a more troubling position than their upcoming opponents.

They wrapped up the first half of the season third from bottom, two places behind Fortaleza C.E.I.F. The final stretch was particularly poor, with the squad losing all of their last five fixtures. It's worth noting that three of those defeats came against teams that did not reach the play-offs. After the league phase, the squad took part in the early rounds of the national cup, topped their group, and advanced to the round of 16.

Fortaleza finished just ahead of their opponents, picking up four points from their final five matches—still a sign of modest form. Their away record has shown a clear pattern: they failed to score in five of eight matches, yet managed to keep a clean sheet in four of those same games. Only one of those away encounters ended without a goal from either side.
