Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the La Liga match.
Espanyol are battling to avoid relegation and, after securing back-to-back victories, now sit six points clear of the relegation zone. However, any misstep could see the team dragged back into the fight for survival. Getafe, meanwhile, still have an outside chance of qualifying for European competition, but their recent performances have been unconvincing. Notably, Getafe have not claimed an away victory against Espanyol in over ten years.
Espanyol
Espanyol have looked composed in recent weeks, losing just once in their last seven fixtures, with three wins and three draws. They have been particularly reliable at home, going nine matches unbeaten on their own turf and scoring in eight of them. In their recent 2:0 victory over Celta de Vigo, Roberto Fernández scored twice and is expected to lead the attack again, replacing the suspended Javi Puado, who has netted ten La Liga goals this season. Defensively, Espanyol have also stood out, conceding only 16 goals at home — the fourth-best record in the league.
Getafe
Getafe, by contrast, have lost four of their past seven matches, including defeats to fellow strugglers Las Palmas (1:3) and Leganés (0:1). While Getafe still hold the league’s third-best defensive record overall, they have shown signs of vulnerability lately, conceding 11 goals across their last eight games — a significant drop-off compared to the 17 they allowed in the previous 23 rounds.
Espanyol vs Getafe Prediction
Espanyol have shown consistency at home. They regularly find the net and their defensive statistics stand alongside the league’s top sides. Getafe have seen a dip in form, and their previously solid defence has shown cracks. Espanyol are likely to come away with at least a draw and are unlikely to concede heavily.
