Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the La Liga match.
Espanyol’s recent slump has left them teetering on the edge of relegation. Heading into the final matchday of the La Liga season, the team needs at least a draw against Las Palmas to ensure survival. A point would suffice, as Espanyol hold the edge over Leganés on tiebreakers.
Espanyol
The team’s six-match winless run has come amid a challenging stretch of fixtures, having faced four highly motivated top-ten sides. This demanding calendar limited Espanyol’s ability to take advantage of their opponents’ mistakes. Since 18 December, just two of their ten home matches have seen more than 2.5 total goals — a testament to how their home ground has helped keep scorelines tight.
Las Palmas
Las Palmas, meanwhile, have gone five games without a point, including four matches without scoring. With relegation already confirmed, the squad will be further depleted in their final outing, missing Jonathan Silva, Jesé Rodríguez, and Stefan Bajcetic due to injury. José Campaña is also suspended after accumulating too many yellow cards. Four of their last five away games have featured under 2.5 total goals.
Espanyol vs Las Palmas Prediction
In the reverse fixture back in December, Las Palmas edged a narrow 1:0 win over Espanyol. However, the momentum now appears to favour Espanyol, who are expected to adopt a cautious, defence-first approach to secure the result they require.
