Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the ATP Roland Garros match.
Carlos Alcaraz arrives at Roland Garros as the reigning champion and one of the frontrunners for the title this year. However, the second round has rarely been the stage where he displays his best tennis. Since 2021, he has not won a second-round match at this tournament by more than nine games. Fabian Marozsan will aim to make another impact, much like he did in 2023 when he shocked the Spaniard.
Fabian Marozsan
Fabian Marozsan opened his campaign in Paris with a confident performance, defeating Luca Nardi (6:2, 6:3, 7:6). He saved four of five break points and demonstrated strong serving consistency, winning 75% of points on his first serve. In 2025, the Hungarian has already secured nine victories on clay, including wins over Ugo Humbert, Zizou Bergs, and Andrey Rublev — all ranked within the top 50. Even in his five defeats this season, Marozsan either managed to claim a set or stayed within a four-game margin.
Carlos Alcaraz
Carlos Alcaraz remains the favourite for this clash, but his opening match in Paris was typically measured. He handled Giulio Zeppieri (6:3, 6:4, 6:2) without showing much urgency or attacking intent. Alcaraz is known for managing his energy in the early rounds, and in four previous second-round appearances at Roland Garros, he has either dropped a set or been pushed to extended sets by players ranked outside the top 100 — including Albert Ramos-Vinolas, Taro Daniel, and Jesper de Jong.
Fabian Marozsan vs Carlos Alcaraz Prediction
Fabian Marozsan already owns a clay-court win over Carlos Alcaraz, earned at the 2023 Rome Masters. Given his current form, the Hungarian is well-placed to remain competitive and keep the scoreline within reach. Carlos Alcaraz is unlikely to chase a dominant win at this stage and is expected to pace himself through the match.
