Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the UEFA Nations League match.
The Faroe Islands' entry into the third-tier division of the Nations League provides teams like North Macedonia with opportunities for easy points. While the underdog status may allow the Faroe Islands to surprise the football community, the likelihood of a miracle remains very low.
Faroe Islands
In the Euro 2024 qualifiers, the Faroe Islands were highly underwhelming in a relatively manageable group. They conceded a total of 13 goals to Albania, Czech Republic, Poland, and Moldova, while scoring only 2, and were the only team not to reach 10+ points. Their defeats to Estonia (1:4) and Latvia (0:1) in a friendly tournament in June further demonstrated the team's struggles even against nominal rivals.
North Macedonia
North Macedonia’s strong midfield made an impact as far back as Euro 2020 and even knocked out Italy in the 2022 World Cup playoffs. Despite heavy defeats in summer friendlies against Croatia (0:3) and the Czech Republic (1:2), the team was still good in attack, with a combined 15 shots and a goal from reserve player Isnik Alimi. With a lower level of competition now, the Macedonian players are expected to show improved results.
Faroe Islands - North Macedonia Prediction
In March 2023, the Faroe Islands suffered a defeat to North Macedonia in Skopje (0:1). That friendly was dominated by the hosts, and in this official match, the favourites are likely to ramp up their attacking pressure.
