Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the ATP Halle match.
Laslo Djere holds a 2:0 head-to-head lead over Felix Auger-Aliassime, despite sitting several dozen places lower in the ATP rankings.
Felix Auger-Aliassime
However, there's important context behind that record. Both encounters took place back in 2019, when Felix Auger-Aliassime was just 17 years old and only in his second full season on the professional tour. By contrast, Laslo Djere was already 23. Ahead of their first meeting in Rio de Janeiro, the Canadian was ranked 104th in the ATP rankings; reaching the final — where he faced Laslo Djere — saw him climb 44 places. That match, which ended 3:6, 5:7, effectively marked the start of Felix Auger-Aliassime’s breakthrough at the top level. Less than a week later, the two met again in São Paulo, and Laslo Djere won once more (2:6, 6:3, 6:3). This season, following an early elimination at Roland Garros, Felix Auger-Aliassime reached the semi-finals on grass in Stuttgart. There, he was narrowly beaten by eventual champion and second seed Taylor Fritz (4:6, 6:7). That run helped him climb two spots in the rankings, and he now sits at world No. 27.
Laslo Djere
Currently ranked No. 65, Laslo Djere has also begun his grass-court campaign, entering the draw in 's-Hertogenbosch. Just like at Roland Garros, he was eliminated in the first round. His loss to ninth seed Alex de Minaur in Paris — where he pushed his opponent in every set (3:6, 4:6, 6:7) — was a solid performance. However, his defeat to world No. 195 Mark Lajal in the Netherlands (2:6, 4:6) raised questions about his ability to adapt to the surface.
Felix Auger-Aliassime vs Laslo Djere Prediction
Both of their previous encounters came on clay, while Felix Auger-Aliassime has shown himself to be significantly more comfortable on grass (career record of 28 wins to 18 losses) compared to Laslo Djere (9 wins to 17 losses). As such, there is little reason to doubt that Felix Auger-Aliassime will record a confident victory.
