Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Europa League match.
Fenerbahçe barely scraped through to the Europa League knockout stage, while Anderlecht narrowly missed out on a top-eight finish in the group phase. However, the Turkish giants are clear favourites heading into the first leg in Istanbul. They will aim to dominate from the outset, creating as many chances as possible to build a solid advantage before the return fixture in Belgium.
Fenerbahçe
Fenerbahçe have been in outstanding form since the start of 2025, winning 8 of their last 10 matches across all competitions. The only exceptions were two draws in the Europa League—0:0 against Olympique Lyonnais and 2:2 against Midtjylland. On Sunday, Fenerbahçe secured a win over Alanyaspor (2:0), with new signing Anderson Talisca scoring once again, bringing his tally to two goals in just three matches. Furthermore, since 26 September, Fenerbahçe have recorded 10 home wins in 13 matches, underlining their dominance at Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium.
Anderlecht
Anderlecht have struggled defensively in the Europa League, as seen in recent defeats to Viktoria Plzeň (0:2) and Hoffenheim (3:4). In their last 180 minutes in the competition, they have allowed 3.44 xGA, exposing major vulnerabilities at the back. Adding to their problems, loanee Samuel Edozie (Southampton) is out injured, forcing manager Roel Clément to rely on Luis Vázquez or Keisuke Goto up front—neither of whom are likely to trouble Fenerbahçe’s defence. Moreover, since 23 January, Anderlecht have failed to keep a clean sheet and have managed just two wins in their last six matches.
Fenerbahçe vs Anderlecht Prediction
Fenerbahçe’s ambitious winter signings, including Anderson Talisca and Milan Škriniar, show their intent to challenge for every trophy this season. The Istanbul crowd will make life difficult for Anderlecht, and given their defensive frailties, the Belgian side are unlikely to cope with the pressure. Expect a comfortable home win.
