Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Champions League match.
In mid-February, Feyenoord Rotterdam beat AC Milan in the Champions League tie (2:1 on aggregate), despite experiencing significant squad issues. However, Inter Milan are a stronger side for Feyenoord Rotterdam, and home support is unlikely to influence the outcome.
Feyenoord Rotterdam
Feyenoord Rotterdam have achieved a six-match unbeaten run, although this period included matches against AC Milan, who were struggling, and teams from the lower half of the Eredivisie standings. Since the appointment of Robin van Persie, they have defeated Almere City (2:1) and drawn with NEC Nijmegen (0:0), conceding a total of 1.21 xGA. In addition, they remain without 10 injured players.
Inter Milan
Inter Milan skipped the previous playoff round after finishing fourth in the group stage. In eight Champions League matches, they have conceded only one goal, which is the best statistic. On Saturday, they recorded a 1:1 draw away to Napoli, maintaining their lead in the Serie A standings. In Naples, goalkeeper Josep Martínez’s clean-sheet run ended after 267 minutes, though he continues to deputise effectively for the injured Yann Sommer.
Feyenoord Rotterdam vs Inter Milan Prediction
In Rotterdam, Inter Milan are expected to control possession from the outset. We believe their playing style will provide them with an advantage for the second leg.
