Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Conference League match.
The first leg between Fiorentina and Celje (2:1) indicated that Fiorentina are on course for a third straight appearance in the Europa Conference League final. Facing a relatively modest opponent, Fiorentina are expected to rotate and test various attacking options, even in the absence of Robin Gosens due to injury and Dodô Santos, who is suspended after receiving multiple yellow cards. Their overall creativity should remain unaffected.
Fiorentina
Since losing 2:1 to Napoli on 9 March, Fiorentina have gone six matches unbeaten, recording four victories and two draws. In Slovenia, they pushed forward with intent and produced 1.01 xG. Back at home, Fiorentina are likely to start Moise Kean, who has netted four goals in his last four appearances across club and international duty.
Celje
Celje deserve recognition for reaching the quarter-finals and competing against Fiorentina. Still, they generated just 0.77 xG on home soil, excluding penalties. On the road in European competition, Celje have suffered seven defeats in their last eight matches stretching back to last summer’s qualifiers. It’s hard to imagine them delivering a flawless performance in Florence — more technically proficient Fiorentina are expected to make the most of any lapse.
Fiorentina vs Celje Prediction
The second leg between Fiorentina and Celje is shaping up to favour the hosts with a handicap advantage. Raffaele Palladino is unlikely to let a winnable European quarter-final slip, especially with a genuine opportunity to claim the trophy.
